Published: 7. July 2025 • Updated: 18. September 2025 • Category: Asia

Tetebatu is a picturesque village located in the eastern part of the island of Lombok. It is often referred to as the “Ubud of Lombok”, especially because everywhere you look you will find beautiful rice fields, which are an important part of the local community.

In this article you will find 7 places not to be missed during your visit to Tetebatu. Included are tips on beautiful waterfalls, activities in the area and also great gastronomy.

Stay for a few days in a local homestay

The first one is to come to Tetebatu for a few days, during which you will visit the most beautiful places and enjoy the great rural atmosphere. If you rent a scooter or a car, you can get here from Bangsal harbour in about 2 hours.

In this area you will find a large number of homestays, where you will be looked after by your hosts. We really loved this kind of accommodation because we stayed in the middle of rice fields, the owners cooked great food for us and the bonus? It all cost us 7,5€ per person.

Accommodation tip: Sarang Walet Homestay, which also has an excellent restaurant.

Sarang Walet Homestay is located in the middle of the rice fields.

Day trip to Tetebatu from Kuta or Senggigi

The second option is to come for a day trip from another part of Lombok, e.g. from Kuta or Senggigi. In this case, we recommend booking a personal driver to guide you around the selected sites. You can book a driver at this link. If you have a motorbike or a car, you can also arrive on your own. From Senggigi or Kuta you can get here in 1.5 hours.

Organised group trip

The third option is to take a group trip. You can see the offer of such trips on this link.

TOP 7 places in Tetebatu Lombok

But let’s talk about what not to miss during your visit to Tetebatu. In this list you will find not only tips for places and activities, but also our favourite restaurants where you can enjoy the best local cuisine.

1. Rice fields in Tetebatu

The main reason why people travel to Tetebatu is because of the rice fields that are all around. So it’s up to you whether you decide to ride a motorbike through them or choose to walk. If you’re looking for a place that looks nice from a drone’s point of view, we recommend this place.

2. Benang Stokel

Just a 40-minute motorbike ride from the heart of Tetebatu, you’ll find the stunning twin waterfalls of Benang Stokel and Benang Kelambu nestled in lush jungle surroundings. You pay 5K IDR to park here and then you have to buy a entrance ticket. If you decide to visit Benang Stokel Waterfall and Benang Kelambu Waterfall, you will pay IDR 90K per person to enter. A guide is included in the price.

From the car park, the first waterfall, Benang Stokel, can be reached in about 15 minutes on foot. You can then continue another 15-20 minutes on foot through the forest to reach the second waterfall, Benang Kelambu. The other alternative is to return halfway back to the road and continue with the scooter to the second waterfall, which will take about 5-10 minutes. However, the route is rocky and steep, so we recommend it only for experienced drivers.

3. Benang Kelambu

Benang Kelambu really surprised us and to this day we still rank it among the most beautiful waterfalls in the whole of Indonesia. It consists of several streams of water falling through lush greenery, which gives it its uniqueness. There is also a small local stand where you can buy small snacks or coffee.

ATTENTION! It is forbidden for women to swim in swimsuits at the waterfall. So you need to bring a sarong or clothes to go in the water.

4. Monkey Forest

Another place that is definitely worth a visit is Monkey Forest. And not just any! In the wild, you can see black monkeys, which are rarer in Indonesia than e.g. long-tailed macaques, which you will meet at every turn in Lombok. The entrance fee is IDR 30,000, and upon entering, you will likely be approached by several locals who will want to accompany you.

We visited the forest twice and both times without a guide. However, we only saw black monkeys for the second time, which we attribute mainly to the fact that we were there in the morning.

5. Warung Monkey Forest

While you’re in the area around Monkey Forest, we recommend grabbing lunch at the local Warung Monkey Forest restaurant. It’s only a few minutes away, so it’s the perfect place to cool off and relax a bit before heading off on your next adventure.

6. Air Terjun Sarang Walet

Tetebatu is an area full of beautiful and unusual places, and it’s no different with the Air Terjun Sarang Walet Waterfall. It is a waterfall located “in a cave” and is often referred to as an underground waterfall. You will find it located in the middle of the rice fields. The entry fee is IDR 30K plus a nominal parking fee of IDR 2K.

In addition to Lombok, you can also visit the Gili Islands, which are only a few minutes away from Lombok by boat.

7. Ima’s Cafe & Orchid

If you’re looking for a great place for coffee, breakfast or lunch, we definitely recommend a visit to Ima’s Cafe & Orchid. This place is a bit out of the way as there are no tourist attractions nearby, but it is definitely worth the 15 minute motorbike ride. In addition to a great selection of food and drinks, the café has a beautiful setting, garden and pond. We felt really great there.

Tetebatu has quickly become one of our favourite parts of Lombok. We hope your feelings after visiting him will be the same!
